Don’t Know How Much I Can Endure

“Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them, and filling an emptiness we didn’t ever know we had.” – Thom Jones

I just had to have my Great Pyrenees euthanized on November 6, 2019. Cancer had attacked his body and he lost the war. He was only six years old.

Today, January 22,2020 I had a veterinarian appointment for my Australian Shepherd, Kate. X-Rays showed her lungs were riddled with tumors. I was devastated.

Kate was born on January 1, 2011. We became very attached to each other. I was a horseshoer and she was my ride dog. We were inseparable.

The vet thinks she has 1 to 2 weeks left with me before she crosses the bridge. Her crossing will leave a huge hole in my heart. Those who don’t love and respect animals like I do think I am being silly. For those of you who understand what it is like to love or be loved by a dog I thank God for you because you get it.

  1. So sorry to hear the news about Kate. Stay strong and hold onto all those wonderful memories.

Many of us think just like you about our four legged friends. Last year I read a delightful book called Grizella’s Bucket List. Grizella is a very large dog. It’s not the right time for you to read this now, but 6 months down the track it will be okay to be reminded of your wonderful mates and I think it may even make you smile.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear such devastating news. My heart breaks for you. When my Doogie had to cross that bridge on 11/4/19, it was a pain i still feel today, and maybe forever. I know that you are hurting, I know you feel just as deeply, maybe feel lost even (what do we do with our lives without our 4-legged family members….), I am here whenever you need. I had 12 last days w Doogie. He ate his favorite foods every day, he ran off leads as much as he wanted. Whatever made him happy. Love every day w Katie, know you more than loved her “enough” and she loved you right back. (If you’re crazy, then I gladly am, too)

I’ll keep you both in my heart and Blessings Basket. Sending you peace. 💔❤️

    • Thank you so much. I am devastated. They are my life and they both will cross the bridge. Life will be empty. I won’t replace them because I can’t bear any more heartache. “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”-Will Rogers

      • Will Roger’s said it all for me too. Sending you hugs and puppy kisses. I got a 3 (now 4) mo old puppy for Christmas. She is complete opposite of Doogie. She’s growing on me, probably because I see Doogie in just about everything she does. She’s sweet and I’ll love her, no doubt. But every time I see a small mix breed with markings like his, I instantly miss and want Doogie back. That can’t happen, so I still feel out of sorts. It was good to get a dog physically unlike Doogie in about every way possible, it keeps me from comparing. Angel is patiently carving out a new place in my heart…I value every time she gets relentless about giving puppy kisses. Thankfully they don’t come with as much teeth as they did (😂). I think you’d warm up to her in a New York minute.

Please, Keep your heart open my dear friend. There is a dog out there that needs to be loved, as much as you need to care for a beloved companion…I call that a Lucky Dog. 🐾🥰

  3. Oh noooo… I feel your pain and am so very sorry. I had to put my beloved Kitty down in Sept. 2019. They take a little piece of our hearts with them but I could not see my life without them even though I know there will be this heartache. Maybe in time the wounds won’t be so open and hurting and a furry friend will sneak into your heart. ❤️ If not, I know we animal lovers totally understand. Giant HUGS!! Wish we could relieve the pain just a little. I know the devastation you are feeling. Hang in there! ❤️ Diana 🥰

    • You are so kind and you taking the time to comment lifted my spirits. Thank you so much. I will probably have another fur baby for sure. I have five horses so I won’t be completely without the love of an animal. You are the best.

      • Awe, I’m glad I can help. I wish I could be there to give you a hug! I have 2 horses, 2 dogs and 2 new cats. The cats are from my son who had 4 cats and they weren’t getting along and since I was catless, I told him I could take them to ease the tension and so now I’m back to all these animals which I adore. The new ones somehow fill that piece of heart back up and so the process continues as I’ll never be without a furry friend, ever!! My kids will have to take them which I hope is a million years from now when I go…. 😉 Stay strong! 😃❤️

  4. Aw, to lose Eros, and then to lose Kate all in the short time , I know is devastating. You haven’t recovered from one and then thrown into what seems to take the wind out your sails; decompress. 🐾🐾✝️✝️
Thank you for your share, know that there are those who care. Prayers.
