Opinions, Everyone has One

We all have the right of freedom of speech under the First Amendment.  We all don’t have to agree with one another on our opinions.  Everyone in my circle, that I run with, we all feel the same about God, country, integrity and character. – Luke Scott

Being a 50s baby I am totally lost as what is going on today in America.  I can remember when folks disagreed because of different opinions.  It’s not something that just started.  I don’t remember it getting as ugly (which caused me to write this) as folks are today to each other when their opinions differ.  At the same time we didn’t have “social media” either.

Our opinions aren’t always going to be the same. That is why there is the left and  the right.  I am basically an in the middle kind of guy.  I have never voted a straight ticket.  I always look at the candidate and their views.  Yes, your opinions are as different as night and day but you don’t have the right to threaten or bully each other   The hostilities have got to cease and be replaced with some civility.

“Different people have different opinions, and it’s okay to respect all of them.”  – Juan Pablo Galavis

The thing that bothers me most is the double standard of the left and the violence they are instigating.  Left; the elections were almost 2 years ago and you still won’t accept defeat even after you screwed Sanders and gave the nomination to Clinton.  Bernie would have beat Trump in my opinion even though you don’t think I am entitled to an opinion.  Now you are looking for anything to blame the loss on.  Right; obviously you didn’t understand why rural America got out and voted because you have done nothing.  Don’t think you can’t be voted out.  You have a lot of convincing to do in the next 2 years.

I must respect the opinions of others even if I disagree with them.” – Herbert H. Lehman

It seems that today in this country that the Main Stream News Media is doing their best to incite a riot and create a bigger divide in this country.  I remember when news reporters read the news and didn’t give an opinion.  The way it should be.  Hollywood; shut the “F” up.  The majority of you make me want to puke.  Everyone says Trump is a joke and other countries are laughing at us because of it.  Really?  I guess you haven’t done anything to make other countries laugh at us.  Nobody entertained us like Joe Biden but that was ok.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

You all can believe what you want and think I am crazy but America is circling the drain and we are standing back watching.  First and foremost we are Americans not republicans or democrats.  It is time to bury the hatchet and plug that drain.  Do you think this group coming to the US from Honduras is just a coincidence?

Thanks for reading my blog.  Not a popular subject and I tried to avoid even writing about it but with the events that have went on lately I felt compelled to write about it.  I hope I didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.  That isn’t my intention.

On March 4, 1826, Major General Jacob J. Brown, Commanding General of the Army, issued Special Order No. 13 which he instructed Bvt. General Henry Atkinson, Commanding Officer of the 6th Infantry Regiment , and Bvt. Major General Edmund P. Gaines, Commander of the Western Department of the Army,”…to select some position near the mouth of Missouri River [net exceeding a range of 20 miles] which in their judgement may be deamed [sic] the best for the establishment of an infantry school of instruction.”That was the inception of Jefferson Barracks Military Post.  It was an important and active U.S. Army installation from 1826 through 1946.  It is the oldest operating U.S. Military installation west of the Mississippi River.  It is presently used as a base for the Army and Air National Guard. The first conflict that the soldiers of Jefferson Barracks were involved in happened in 1832 and it was known as the Black Hawk War.  During the Civil War it was used as a military hospital for both sides as well as a recruitment center for the north.  By the end of the war they had treated well over 18,000 soldiers. The Jefferson Barracks Military Post Cemetery was established in 1826.  The first known burial was Elizabeth Ann Lash, the infant child of an officer stationed there.  In 1866 it became a United States National Cemetery.DSC_0007July 31,2018, my daughter in law, grandson and myself visited the Missouri Civil War Museum located in Jefferson Barracks located in the old Jefferson Barracks 1905 Post Exchange Building.  Since its opening in June 2013, it has become one of the largest Civil War Museums in the U.S.  Its focus is entirely on Missouri’s role in the American Civil War.45.The 22,000 square foot museum is filled with over one thousand artifacts and several films are available for your viewing.  Each gallery and exhibit tells a story of Missouri in the American Civil War, from guerrillas and jayhawkers to life on the home front.  There are also galleries on Jefferson Barracks history and the post-war era.6312Pics above are of some of the displays located inside the museum.Personally I think the museum is well worth the visit.  Inside the gift shop is a fine collection of books written about the civil war along with souvenirs. My hat is off to the Missouri Civil War Museum group that was formed in 2002.  They managed to raise 1.7 million dollars for the restoration of the building.  When you see the before and after pics you will see what an enormous undertaking it was to restore the building.  A big thank you to everyone that made this museum possible. The museum is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  You can find out more at mcwm.org.

Drag races in Bonne Terre, MO.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone had  the same likes and dislikes?   I would think the world would be a very boring place.   Everyone would be driving the same kind of car, eat the same kind of food and wearing the same clothes.  Being different and unique can be a good thing though and sometimes a bad thing.

Behind every person is a reason as to why they like the things they do or the life style they choose to live.  Something, somewhere, one day (or week, month, year) happened that influenced a person to take that first step onto the path of life they wanted to live.  Now you and I may not agree with the path they choose but Newsflash cupcake!  It doesn’t matter because that individual has their rights too.

If we don’t respect the beliefs and ways of others how can we expect them to respect ours?  I see a lot of that in today’s world.  Why can’t we learn to agree to disagree?  There’s no good guy, there’s no bad guy, there is just two people who believe differently for different reasons.  No one is right and no one is wrong.  Let’s quit arguing and fighting.  Debate is good as long as it is in good form.  It can even be healthy.

“Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station, deserves respect.  We must each respect others even as we respect ourselves.” U Thant

One of the biggest problems that I see is when someone tells me I have to respect their way of thinking then shows no respect to my beliefs.  For instance you don’t like dogs,   I respect that and I won’t bring my dog to your house and I won’t force you to like my dog.  So don’t come to my house and tell me I am going to have to get rid of my dogs and accept your way of thinking because you don’t like dogs.

Respect, like common sense used to be common.  Now days neither one are.  I don’t know when or how it happened but it did.  Respect is an integral part of every day life whether we want to admit or not.  I hope one day respect and common sense make a come back.

My ride dog and companion, Kate.

“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.  For me, they are the role model for being alive.” – Gilda Radner

One thing that I can not wrap my feeble little mind around is how can people abuse animals?  How can folks just give an old dog to a shelter and then they have the nerve to replace them with a new puppy.  It breaks my heart when I see this happen.  Folks whether you believe it or not animals do have feelings.

Kate suffered from crystals in her urine and she had to have hip surgery when she was a year old.  After surgery she slept on the couch and I slept on the floor beside her.  From that time on she was my dog.  She did her best not to let me out of her sight.  She went everywhere with me and since I am a farrier she was my ride dog.  She loves riding “shotgun” and loves to watch the road.

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” – Josh Billings

My dad never liked dogs and still doesn’t to this day.  He just turned 84 so I guess it is pretty safe to say he probably never will.  I know they aren’t for everyone but there is no reason on earth to abuse them.

Just imagine, you are 6 years old and your dad puts you in the car and off you go.  After awhile you don’t recognize the area you are traveling in and it appears to be in the country and it is raining.  Finally in a very secluded place your dad stops the car and gets outside.  He opens your door and he grabs you by the hand and leads you over to a log and tells you to sit down.  Then he walks back to the car, gets in it and drives off.  Leaving you there all alone, in a strange place and you are scared.

Now don’t give me that BS that I am comparing apples to oranges.  I am not.  Both are alive, confused, scared and broken hearted.  Neither have done anything to be treated this way.  Thousands of animals are dumped each year just because their owner doesn’t want them anymore.  Maybe I went a little overboard trying to get my point across but animals do have feelings.

Soooooo, if you are thinking about getting a pet remember that they have feelings and would like a forever home and they are a member of the family.  Please, if you can’t accept this then get a “Pet Rock”.

Emerson, Politics and Myself

14051575_10153914141918041_5227124425302298728_n (1)

I call it “The Rock of David”.

“The teaching of politics is that the Government, which was set for protection and comfort of all good citizens, becomes the principal obstruction and nuisance with which we have to contend… The cheat and bully and malefactor we meet everywhere is the Government.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Emerson writes in his essay on politics that an ideal government, advocated for the growth of the individual and would be able to protect one’s individual rights.  Once an individual became completely independent and self-reliant they would be ready for democracy and the government could be abolished.  The richest asset one could have is the mind and the intelligence needed from each individual would triumph over politics and business interests.  He also valued personal rights over property rights.

He tells us that “The law is only a memorandum.” and his most popular quote was “The less government we have the better.”  Emerson had complete faith in the individual but he does a turn about on his views toward nations.  He goes as far to write, “Every actual state is corrupt.”  Political parties are “made out of necessity” out of the time period and not of any underlying theory.  He was not satisfied with either party at the time and hinted to the natural inequality the system adhered to and its effects.  Even back then he didn’t trust the pulpit and the press.  This is from Essays: Second Series published in 1844.

Now fast forward to 2017 and hold on to your arse.  Less government is certainly out of the question and there is very little trust for the press and the pulpit.  Our government has become enormous.  The thing that fascinates me is that we Americans put our trust in a group of people who steal from us (i.e. Social Security) and unless you have a rather large sum of money to invest in a campaign you aren’t going to get elected.  The majority of most of these elections are won by the person who had the most money to spend.  No, I didn’t say always I said most.  The average John Q Public has no way to be successful in a bid for a US Senate seat or House of Representatives.  The qualifications are easy enough.

Senate: 1) at least 30 years old  2) a U.S. citizen for at least 9 years at the time of election to the Senate  3) a resident of the state one is elected to represent in the Senate.

House of Representatives: 1) be at least 25 years old  2) have been a resident of the United States for the last 7 years  3) be (at the time of the election) an inhabitant of the state they represent.

Wow!  We trust these people to do what  is best for us?  Not even a high school diploma or GED required.  The real kicker, why would someone spend a million dollars to procure a job that pays one hundred seventy four thousand to two hundred thousand dollars a year?

I see the bad moon arising, I see trouble on the way………

“Every actual State is corrupt.  Good men must not obey the laws too well.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I don’t know what the future holds but I personally think trouble is on its way.  We are a country that instead of taking a problem head on we just pass another useless law.  Representatives that make promises and never follow through.  Both parties promise the moon and deliver nothing.   Both sides still refuse to acknowledge why the election of 2016 went the way it did.  Fact is that Americans are fed up with the whole mess and demonstrated that in the voting booth and democrats and republicans still refuse to acknowledge it.

In my heart I truly believe the framers of the constitution tried their best to protect us from the greed of politicians.  Greed however is hard for humans to overcome and very hard to defeat.  The corruption within our government and political system iseventually going to be the death of a once great nation.  It is been there a long time but it seems the new politicians are bolder than those before them or maybe they aren’t as smart as their predecessors, because they aren’t doing a very good job of hiding it.

I hope Americans remain awake and keep sending a message to politicians that we have had enough.  They work for and represent us and it is time we quit keeping them in office when they don’t have our best interests in mind.  Ok I will shut up now.  I know I am beating a dead horse.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  I really don’t like to write about this particular subject however I just needed to get it off my chest.  I am tired of seeing my friends and family arguing over a bunch of thugs, yeah I called them thugs, that don’t give a rat’s patootie about them.  Be sure to spread the love.

Time To Rant

My mind is whirling with all the BS going on in the U.S. today.  I see friends arguing and calling each other names over politics.  Friendships destroyed and families torn apart.  For what?   When did we let politics become more important than friendships and family?   I see people who have no respect for anything and they are quick to criticize.  I see a Main Stream News Media creating a massive divide in this country that is surely going to end in disaster.  Hate seems to be more popular than love.  It seems to me that America is circling the drain and I say to myself, is it too late to put the plug back in the drain.  I hope so.

The top 5 pastors in America have a net worth of 960 million dollars.  Really?  I am a christian but this isn’t religion, this is big business.  I am sorry but that is my opinion and I am sure someone will ream me for it.  I know some pastors that have a great ministry and they do a fine job of preaching the “Word” and helping needy communities on a lot less.

Parents with children.  I am sorry when you go out to a restaurant show the other patrons a little respect.  When you let your children chase each other around the tables it isn’t funny, it is annoying.  To you parents who take the time to teach your child to behave, thank you.  Teach your children the word “no” so that when you tell them they can’t have a candy bar they will refrain from throwing themselves on the floor, screaming and kicking.

Hollywood, get over yourself!   I don’t give a rat’s arse about what your political views are just like you don’t care about mine.  I even respect you less when you use your “stardom” to influence John Q Public.  All the actresses that came out condemning the antics of the POTUS where are you on the subject of Harvey Weinstein?  Maybe I just missed your comments and if I did please forgive me but you seem to be pretty mute about his behavior.  Football players, kneeling to get attention for police brutality.  Where were you when your own was expressing his christian beliefs and got blackballed from football.  He was kneeling.  How about the football player who killed a mother/wife because he ran a red light because he was intoxicated.  He got an eight game suspension.  Really?  I don’t condone police brutality but you have seemed to help alienate a lot of people from your cause.

In the past there has been some bias in the news world but come on.  Can you be any more bias?  Now tune in for the 6 o’clock opinions.  Nope no news, just a bigger spoon to help stir the pot and create more hate and discontent.  I find it  kind of odd that you dropped the Vegas story so quickly.   Did your story fall apart?  Do John Q Public a favor and report the facts and be unbiased in your reporting.  If you are going to be bias then at least do a better job of hiding it.

Sorry for all the ranting but I could go on all night.  Folks whether you believe it or not the country is falling down around us.  Our politicians are failing us.  MSNM is failing us.  Parents are failing their children.  Most of all, we are failing each other.

We need to think about what the consequences our actions will cause.  Example, protesters.  Protesting is a powerful tool when used correctly.  I am sorry but when you invade shopping malls screaming your demands or blocking a freeway you aren’t making friends.  You are causing more hate to be cast your way.  Those people can’t do anything for you.  If you are protesting the government and receiving government benefits, send your checks back or don’t pay your taxes.  This will get the attention of the people who can help you.  Protest in front of city hall every day.  We protest bullying and your protests that you are using is just another form of bullying.

Well I am going to shut up.  In a world full of opinions someone is probably going to get their feelings hurt.  I hope I didn’t make anyone think less of me.  Bottom line is that we need to come together and heal the divide in this nation, not create a bigger abyss.   We are not only destroying our planet but also respect, trust, and integrity.  I am not a Democrat or Republican.  I am an American(gun toting, Bible thumping, redneck I think I was referred to) that wants everyone to come together and heal this great divide within our borders.  United we stand, divided we fall.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  Spread the love.
