Lesson Learned

Well It finally happened.  I have ranted about how we as a society have become hooked on modern technology.  If I had only listened to myself, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I am not hooked don’t you know.  Yeah right and I have some ocean front property for sale in Little Rock, Arkansas don’t ya know.

Anyway I bought a new Apple IPhone X at the end of the year.  Things were gong great and I loved it.  Then, it happened.  I waited too long to charge it and it was dead.  So I plugged it in and it showed it was charging.  Then the little Apple showed up on the screen and it booted up and some how it had cleaned the phone of my passcode and facial recognition so low and behold it was “LOCKED UP”.  Nothing, nada, nil, I could not get in.

Well I took it back to the AT&T store only to discover they couldn’t help me and told me I would have to take it to an Apple Store.  One problem, I live in the sticks.  The local movie house just started showing “ET” last week.  The nearest store was an hour and fifteen minutes away.  After I get there I have to wait 2 hours and 10 minutes before someone could help and still no answer as to why the phone did what it did.  It had to do a “factory reset” of itself so I lost apps, pics and phone numbers.  Gotta love modern technology.

From all of this I learned that I am a member of the dumb arse club.  I had not backed up phone numbers, I had backed up pics and my favorite apps all had to be reloaded.  No one could get in touch with me and since my phone is my hotspot I couldn’t access the internet.  I am going to have to rethink the way I do things through the internet and look into getting a landline.  Hell I had even slacked off writing in my journal because I had been recording my thoughts on WordPress.  Changes are a coming for sure.

As far as the Apple IPhone I was not impressed at all by their tech support.  Really disappointed.  Thanks for reading my blog and I hope you enjoyed it.  Share the love!

 

Distance: Just How Far Is It?

Living proof that even a blind hog can find an acorn once in a while.  This quote came about one day while interacting on Facebook with my friend David Tripp.  He was on his way back to Texas after a week of fishing and visiting in Missouri.  He was talking about the geographical distance between Missouri and Texas but we didn’t seem that far apart.

With new technology and social media we have, there is no reason that a thousand mile separation has to seem that far away.  There are so many tools available to us today that we can change the feeling of being so far away.  We can virtually call anywhere in the United States and stay in touch.  We can share posts on Facebook, IM each other, use our phones to text one another and use apps like Skype, Linked In, Twitter and so many others to stay in touch.

With all the available tools we have at our disposal there is no reason that a thousand miles has to feel like a long way.  We can share our vacation as is happening.  We don’t have to come home and get pictures developed or set up the movie camera to share our vacation with friends and family.  We can do it as it is happening.

I remember the Bell telephone commercial sometime in the 70s that use to say ” Reach out and touch someone.” and I had no idea what he future had in store for us.  I know the verdict is still out as to whether all this new technology is good or bad for us, however it can make us feel like next door neighbors even if we are separated by a thousand miles.
