MDC Once Again Under Attack!

The Missouri Conservation and Use Tax is once again under attack. ‘This money goes directly to support forest and wildlife conservation efforts. Out of every $8 of taxable goods one penny goes for conservation.

In the early 70s Missouri citizens petitioned to get the tax placed on the ballot. They succeeded, it passed and was implemented on July 1, 1977. Then in 1999 state officials attempted to divert the money collected to pay refunds to taxpayers to only have the Missouri Supreme Court rule that the money could only be used for conservation and not be considered part of the states total revenues.

When I was a child there were a lot of areas of Missouri where it was rare to see a deer or a turkey. I grew up fishing the Big River and bass fishing was mediocre.

In 1977 when the money was allocated to the MDC, things began to change. A little slow at first but soon things began to improve. Due to responsible conservation efforts game became more abundant. Hunters were allotted more tags to fill for deer and turkey. Bass fishing became more rewarding. Money started coming in from out of state hunters who wanted to take advantage of our good hunting. Out of state fisherman also traveled to Missouri to take advantage of our excellent fishing. New land was bought and more public hunting areas and river accesses were made available. New conservation areas were established. Other states began to take notice and implemented programs in their states that the MDC had created.

Now Republican Chris Dinkins of District 144 has introduced two constitutional amendments that could destroy the improvements that have been made. HJR 108 and HJR 112. She says it is in an effort to rein in the overgrown bureaucracy of the MDC and make the department more accountable to the people.

HJR 108 would give the voters the opportunity to change the Missouri Conservation Commission. Presently the commission has four members who are appointed by the governor. Her amendment would change that number to nine nonpartisan members. Voters would elect one member from the current MDC districts and the governor would appoint one member to the commission. I thought she wanted to rein in bureaucracy within the department but this would only add to it causing more bureaucratic red tape.

HJR 112, if passed by voters, would take two thirds of the money and pass it on to other areas in need. The Missouri Supreme Court has already ruled that the money could only be used for conservation and can not be considered part of the states total revenues. Lawsuits? I know the voters are voting on it but the voters passed it in the first place.

She points out that the MDC has a savings account balance of almost 100 million dollars. Sounds to me like they are being pretty responsible. Representative Dinkins that’s let me point out that a savings account is usually used for emergencies. How much of that money was contributed from the Conservation Sales and Use Tax and how much from the sale of licenses, tags, ammo, etc.? If the economy tanks the MDC could go through that money pretty quickly in an effort to keep its programs afloat. Did you ever think of that are better yet do you even care? She says the MDC continues to attack the civil liberties of this state but cites no references. If you are going to throw the sportsmen of this state under the bus at least tell us why? Since you represent Reynolds county I would be suspect it has something to do with the battle between feral hog hunters and the MDC. So your solution is to punish all sportsman of the state of Missouri?

I hope the sportsmen in this state takes a long hard look at what is going on here and the impact these two amendments will have on bird hunting, deer hunting, turkey hunting, fishing and all the other programs offered by the MDC. Are we going to stand by and let this destroy all the accomplishments the MDC has made since 1977. I for one hope not.

Growing Up In The 50s and 60s

As a child my “journey of life” was lived as a country boy. We always lived near small towns and both grandparents lived on farms. Common sense and respect were alive and well and a handshake meant something. Life was simple.

Following are some of the things that I remember from my childhood.

We said yes sir, no sir, yes ma’am, no ma’am and thank you. Ate fried tater sandwiches. Mom canning what we grew in the garden. Family vacations. The whole family sitting around the supper table. Collecting soda bottles and turning them in to redeem the deposit that was on them. Going Snipe hunting. Catching lightning bugs and putting them in glass jars. Experienced snipe hunting. We went fishing and hunted. We didn’t Skype or Tweet. Our social media consisted of grandpa’s pond. We said the pledge of allegiance every morning before school. We used a dictionary, encyclopedia and the library because internet service was nonexistent. If you got caught cussing you got your mouth washed out with soap. We rode in the back of a pickup. We respected the flag and stood for the National Anthem. Stores were closed on Sundays and holidays. Parents didn’t hesitate to bust our butts when we did something wrong.

It was clean honest living and a lot of the things we did aren’t even allowed any more. I don’t ever remember hearing about mass shootings. Hmm.

Why…..?

“The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just.” – Abraham Lincoln

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a farrier by trade and sometimes there can be considerable distance from our jobs so we incur a lot of windshield time.  This was one of those days for me today.  The word of the day seemed to be “why” because it kept popping up in my mind.

Why do people find it necessary to hurt someone because they don’t agree with someone’s point of view?  Just recently a young lady, who’s blog I follow, had some hurtful replies to one particular blog she published.  I am sorry but I find that intolerable.  There are ways of saying you disagree without having to be hateful.  If you are one of those people that hurt people intentionally, please tell me what is gained by doing it.  Enlighten me.

Why do you always have to be right?  News flash folks, it is not the end of the world if you are wrong and the individual that has the fortitude to admit it my hat is off to them.  That tells me that you have class and must be an aspiring individual.

Why does there necessarily have to be a “right” or a “wrong”?  Why can’t we just agree to disagree?  Everyone has their reasons for believing the way they do.  Right now I see this going on in the world of politics at the moment in this country on national, state and local levels of government.  You think POTUS is an idiot and doing a terrible job.  You think the POTUS is doing a great job and pleased with his/her performance.  Neither one of you are right or wrong.  All you have is an opinion of the POTUS formed by different reasons.  opinion : a view or judgement about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.  So please, both of you just agree to disagree and move on.

“When you have the right, doesn’t mean you are right.”– Farrah Ezzatie

Why can’t we just compromise?  What is so wrong with compromising?  compromise : accept standards that are lower than is desirable  First off I want to make something perfectly clear, I am NOT a democrat or republican.  I loathe the party system that we have in this country.  I look at the individuals in the race and form an opinion as to who I feel is the best person for the job and that is how I vote.  I digress, sorry.  Ok the present POTUS, governor, senator, etc. does not meet your standards why can’t you just compromise and in 2 or 4 years vote their arses out of office instead of calling all those that supported them (and heaven forbid didn’t agree with your opinion) stupid, racist, deplorable etc..   What makes you so right or them so wrong?  The name calling and constant attacks on those you do not agree with does no good for anyone.  It just creates a bigger divide in this country.  It is not Russia, Isis, or North Korea we have to fear.  No.  Our biggest fear is ourselves.  We are our own worst enemy.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

Once again I thank you for taking the time to read my post.  This is one I really avoided writing about but I felt I just needed to say it.   Will it change things?  Very doubtful.  Spread the love.

Emerson, Politics and Myself

14051575_10153914141918041_5227124425302298728_n (1)

I call it “The Rock of David”.

“The teaching of politics is that the Government, which was set for protection and comfort of all good citizens, becomes the principal obstruction and nuisance with which we have to contend… The cheat and bully and malefactor we meet everywhere is the Government.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Emerson writes in his essay on politics that an ideal government, advocated for the growth of the individual and would be able to protect one’s individual rights.  Once an individual became completely independent and self-reliant they would be ready for democracy and the government could be abolished.  The richest asset one could have is the mind and the intelligence needed from each individual would triumph over politics and business interests.  He also valued personal rights over property rights.

He tells us that “The law is only a memorandum.” and his most popular quote was “The less government we have the better.”  Emerson had complete faith in the individual but he does a turn about on his views toward nations.  He goes as far to write, “Every actual state is corrupt.”  Political parties are “made out of necessity” out of the time period and not of any underlying theory.  He was not satisfied with either party at the time and hinted to the natural inequality the system adhered to and its effects.  Even back then he didn’t trust the pulpit and the press.  This is from Essays: Second Series published in 1844.

Now fast forward to 2017 and hold on to your arse.  Less government is certainly out of the question and there is very little trust for the press and the pulpit.  Our government has become enormous.  The thing that fascinates me is that we Americans put our trust in a group of people who steal from us (i.e. Social Security) and unless you have a rather large sum of money to invest in a campaign you aren’t going to get elected.  The majority of most of these elections are won by the person who had the most money to spend.  No, I didn’t say always I said most.  The average John Q Public has no way to be successful in a bid for a US Senate seat or House of Representatives.  The qualifications are easy enough.

Senate: 1) at least 30 years old  2) a U.S. citizen for at least 9 years at the time of election to the Senate  3) a resident of the state one is elected to represent in the Senate.

House of Representatives: 1) be at least 25 years old  2) have been a resident of the United States for the last 7 years  3) be (at the time of the election) an inhabitant of the state they represent.

Wow!  We trust these people to do what  is best for us?  Not even a high school diploma or GED required.  The real kicker, why would someone spend a million dollars to procure a job that pays one hundred seventy four thousand to two hundred thousand dollars a year?

I see the bad moon arising, I see trouble on the way………

“Every actual State is corrupt.  Good men must not obey the laws too well.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I don’t know what the future holds but I personally think trouble is on its way.  We are a country that instead of taking a problem head on we just pass another useless law.  Representatives that make promises and never follow through.  Both parties promise the moon and deliver nothing.   Both sides still refuse to acknowledge why the election of 2016 went the way it did.  Fact is that Americans are fed up with the whole mess and demonstrated that in the voting booth and democrats and republicans still refuse to acknowledge it.

In my heart I truly believe the framers of the constitution tried their best to protect us from the greed of politicians.  Greed however is hard for humans to overcome and very hard to defeat.  The corruption within our government and political system iseventually going to be the death of a once great nation.  It is been there a long time but it seems the new politicians are bolder than those before them or maybe they aren’t as smart as their predecessors, because they aren’t doing a very good job of hiding it.

I hope Americans remain awake and keep sending a message to politicians that we have had enough.  They work for and represent us and it is time we quit keeping them in office when they don’t have our best interests in mind.  Ok I will shut up now.  I know I am beating a dead horse.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  I really don’t like to write about this particular subject however I just needed to get it off my chest.  I am tired of seeing my friends and family arguing over a bunch of thugs, yeah I called them thugs, that don’t give a rat’s patootie about them.  Be sure to spread the love.

Time To Rant

My mind is whirling with all the BS going on in the U.S. today.  I see friends arguing and calling each other names over politics.  Friendships destroyed and families torn apart.  For what?   When did we let politics become more important than friendships and family?   I see people who have no respect for anything and they are quick to criticize.  I see a Main Stream News Media creating a massive divide in this country that is surely going to end in disaster.  Hate seems to be more popular than love.  It seems to me that America is circling the drain and I say to myself, is it too late to put the plug back in the drain.  I hope so.

The top 5 pastors in America have a net worth of 960 million dollars.  Really?  I am a christian but this isn’t religion, this is big business.  I am sorry but that is my opinion and I am sure someone will ream me for it.  I know some pastors that have a great ministry and they do a fine job of preaching the “Word” and helping needy communities on a lot less.

Parents with children.  I am sorry when you go out to a restaurant show the other patrons a little respect.  When you let your children chase each other around the tables it isn’t funny, it is annoying.  To you parents who take the time to teach your child to behave, thank you.  Teach your children the word “no” so that when you tell them they can’t have a candy bar they will refrain from throwing themselves on the floor, screaming and kicking.

Hollywood, get over yourself!   I don’t give a rat’s arse about what your political views are just like you don’t care about mine.  I even respect you less when you use your “stardom” to influence John Q Public.  All the actresses that came out condemning the antics of the POTUS where are you on the subject of Harvey Weinstein?  Maybe I just missed your comments and if I did please forgive me but you seem to be pretty mute about his behavior.  Football players, kneeling to get attention for police brutality.  Where were you when your own was expressing his christian beliefs and got blackballed from football.  He was kneeling.  How about the football player who killed a mother/wife because he ran a red light because he was intoxicated.  He got an eight game suspension.  Really?  I don’t condone police brutality but you have seemed to help alienate a lot of people from your cause.

In the past there has been some bias in the news world but come on.  Can you be any more bias?  Now tune in for the 6 o’clock opinions.  Nope no news, just a bigger spoon to help stir the pot and create more hate and discontent.  I find it  kind of odd that you dropped the Vegas story so quickly.   Did your story fall apart?  Do John Q Public a favor and report the facts and be unbiased in your reporting.  If you are going to be bias then at least do a better job of hiding it.

Sorry for all the ranting but I could go on all night.  Folks whether you believe it or not the country is falling down around us.  Our politicians are failing us.  MSNM is failing us.  Parents are failing their children.  Most of all, we are failing each other.

We need to think about what the consequences our actions will cause.  Example, protesters.  Protesting is a powerful tool when used correctly.  I am sorry but when you invade shopping malls screaming your demands or blocking a freeway you aren’t making friends.  You are causing more hate to be cast your way.  Those people can’t do anything for you.  If you are protesting the government and receiving government benefits, send your checks back or don’t pay your taxes.  This will get the attention of the people who can help you.  Protest in front of city hall every day.  We protest bullying and your protests that you are using is just another form of bullying.

Well I am going to shut up.  In a world full of opinions someone is probably going to get their feelings hurt.  I hope I didn’t make anyone think less of me.  Bottom line is that we need to come together and heal the divide in this nation, not create a bigger abyss.   We are not only destroying our planet but also respect, trust, and integrity.  I am not a Democrat or Republican.  I am an American(gun toting, Bible thumping, redneck I think I was referred to) that wants everyone to come together and heal this great divide within our borders.  United we stand, divided we fall.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  Spread the love.

Leave Negativity Behind

DSC_0300

When you look at this picture do you see a storm approaching and run to batten down the hatches or do you drink in all the colors and become mesmerized by the beauty?

“I realized that if my thoughts immediately affect my body, I should be careful about what I think.  Now if I get angry, I ask myself why I feel that way.  If I can find the source of my anger, I can turn that negative energy into something positive.” – Yoko Ono

I know I have written about negativity before in my blogs however, I don’t think enough has been said about it and the affects it has on peoples’ lives.  I see it enslaving so many people in these trying times.  It becomes their “master” and drags down their self-esteem and emotionally drains them and leaves them no hope of a life filled with joy.  Depression runs rampant in their life and once it takes control the downward spiral begins.

Thunderhead or dragon head?

“Haters never win.  I just think that’s true about life, because negative energy always costs in the end.” – Tom Hiddlestone

I am a very negative person, how do I change?   First off I am no doctor, counselor or therapist.  I am just a “been there done that” kind of guy.  My first suggestion would be to sit down and  look at all the peeps you hang with.  Positive or Negative?   Don’t surround yourself with negative people.  Keep a journal of your day to day activities and thoughts.  At the end of the week, sit down and calculate how much negativity is in your journal.  Don’t dwell on the negative things n your life, past and future.

“People tend to dwell more on negative things than on good things.  So the mind then becomes obsessed with negative things, with judgments, guilt and anxiety \produced by thoughts about the future and so on” – Eckhart Tolle

Now I know there are those of you sitting there thinking,  “I know someone like this. What can I do to help?”  Every time they do something good, praise them.  Help them to regain their self-esteem.  Give them respect, love and something to bring them out of their depression.  Be their sounding board.  Be patient and don’t push them.

Remember folks that YOU decide what kind of day you are going to have.  Nobody is going to PP on your parade unless you let them.  You are going to have some tough times and decisions.  Once you get negativity under control and replace it with positive energy you will see a big difference in your life.

Thanks for reading my blog.  I hope you enjoyed.

Really?

“Deserves it!  I daresay he does.  Many that live deserve death.  And some that die deserve life.  Can you give it to them?  Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment.  For even the very wise cannot see all ends.” – J.R.R Tolkien (The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings,  #1)

Congressman Steve Scalise was shot in Virginia at baseball practice.  Now a video of his stance on gun control is being circulated.  I came across one comment that made me realize compassion is a thing of the past.  Sad thing is I know the person that made the remark.  Seems their opinion is that karma visited Scalise because he fought to protect ones rights to own and carry guns.

So using that as an example let me see, does that mean the store clerk who banned guns from his establishment gets shot and killed during a robbery that Karma is responsible because he banned guns from his store?

A young girl starts to leave the house and her dad sees how revealing her clothes are and tells her to go change.  She simply puts clothes over those and when she gets out of sight takes the other clothes off.  As she leaves the local Quick Shop a sick individual spots her in her incredibly short skirt and her bosom revealing top and ends up raping her.  Was Karma responsible for that because she didn’t listen to her father?

Then there was the case some years back of the gentleman who despised guns and was constantly fighting to end gun ownership and with the local gun range.  One night while he and his wife were asleep some thugs broke into their house and tied them up and tormented them for hours.  Then they untied his wife and took the husband and wife into the bedroom and the three goons took turns with his wife and made him watch.  When they were done they stabbed her to death and they thought they stabbed him to death however he survived.  Was this Karma showing him he shouldn’t be trying to stop gun ownership?

I hardly think that any of the above events were due to Karma and I would hope that if I ever insinuated that, I would only hope that someone would horsewhip me.  I hope we haven’t become that callused.

Sad thing is that I know the person who made the comment and they are good people and it is totally out of character for them.   I am in no way putting them down or trying to discredit them.  No doubt there were others that thought the same way.  I credit it to all the turmoil that was caused by the last election.  Emotions are running high.  We need to slow down and quit fueling the fire of hate and discontent in this country and make peace with each other and move on.

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” –  Mother Teresa

Opinion : a view or judgement formed about something not necessarily based on facts or knowledge.  This is another word that I have been seeing thrown around a lot out there.  Yep you are entitled to your opinion however,…..wait for it………a little bit longer, ok you ready??????? SO AM I!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for reading.  Be kind to one another, share the love and don’t squat with your spurs on.  I had just one more thought, what if Trump is the work of Karma because liberals voted for Obama twice.  LOL!
