It seems that with new technology comes more tech thieves. I myself became a victim of tech thieves. First time was my tax return second time was my debit card.
My debit card was used in South Carolina and North Carolina at Pilot truck stops. The crazy thing is my debit card was still in my wallet. I live in Missouri.
Thieves are using what is called credit card skimmers and they are actually more efficient than our government at stealing from us. The skimmers attach quickly and are sometimes used in conjunction with a small camera that records your PIN number. Between the skimmer information and your pin number they have enough to clone your card and make a fraudulent debit/credit card.
A few things to look for when using your card:
A credit card reader that sticks out past the panel.
Parts of the credit card reader are loose or move when jiggled.
A security seal that has been voided.
A pin pad that is thicker than normal.
WARNING! Look out for credit card skimmers anywhere and everywhere but the places thieves prefer are gas stations and ATMs.
I advise that you check your accounts weekly (I check my checking and savings accounts daily), watch where you shop, always check the ATM out thoroughly before you use it
. If someone approaches you and tells you they can “clean” your magnetic strip and make it work better tell them no.
Last but not least if you suspect that your have become a victim contact your bank immediately and get your card shut down. NI hope I was able to help some of you. Be careful out there.
Spread the love and be kind to one another.
